Lydon hat-trick helps MacDara close gap on leaders St Bernard's

Getting Shirty: Ger O'Neill of Vintage Docklands grabs the shirt of Samir of Manortown in a midfield tussle during Saturday's LSL Premier 1 game at Ringsend Park.

With First Division leaders St Bernard's being held to a scoreless draw at home by Colga, second-placed MacDara took full advantage as they closed the gap with a 5-2 win over St Patrick's in Carraroe.

Stand-in striker Paul Lydon was the scoring sensation as he notched a hat-trick, while Tommy Cashen and Simon Lydon completed their tally, as Mike Ward got a brace for the visitors.

A Pat Donovan first-half goal turned out to the match winner as relegation threatened Kiltullagh collected a vital three points in a 1-0 win against fellow strugglers Crumlin.

In the Second Division, OLBC might later rue a series of missed opportunities when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Kinvara United at the Jesuit's yesterday afternoon.

With six teams still live contenders for promotion this was a competitive affair, with both almost identical goals coming in the second half.

Kenny Garvey gave the home side the lead with a close range header, after a Colin Carew cross came back off the crossbar, while Nigel Conneely was also literally on the goal line when poking home after a splendid Cathal Curtin volley also rebounded down off the woodwork.
