GREENHILLS BOYS................... 1

AYLESBURY FC....................... 1

A DRAW was a fair result on Saturday morning when Greenhills Boys entertained Aylesbury FC in Greenhills Park, in this SDFL Under 10C encounter.

A heavy frost on Friday night ensured that conditions under foot were slippery on parts of the pitch, but these two sides battled on gamely and produced a cracking game with plenty of goal mouth action.

The visitors got to grips with the conditions quickly and were on top for most of the opening half, and they had the home side on the back foot.

Inside the opening minutes the Greenhills keeper Jack Nugent, who was standing in for their missing regularnetminder, was called into action when he had to parry away a fierce drive from Ryan Walsh.

He was called on again, this time to make a double save, when Walsh fired in another drive that he again parried, but then dived at the feet of Jack Fitzgerald to deny him a goal.

But they always say that third time is lucky and so it proved, as with their third real effort on goal the visitors hit the front, when Liam Woods let fly from outside the area and his shot landed in the onion sack.

It was no more than they deserved and, in all honesty, had they taken their earlier chances this game would have been over by the end of the half.

But they were made to pay for that in a second half that saw Greenhills raise their game and bag a share of the spoils, after a key decision by the management.

Nugent was taken out of goal and pushed into a midfield position where he thrived, as he was chasing and harrying everything in his path. Although for all his play he was not involved in the goal that shared the points.

That honour fell to Jason Kelly when he hammered home from outside the area, after he picked up a pass from Luke Tomley.
