Palatine Celtic......................... 3
St Fiacc's................................. 3
A rip-roaring tie featuring two hat tricks from Jason Kane and Dale Byrne in the Diamond Woodcraft Youths Division ended all square in Askea on Saturday.
Fiacc's opened in a whirlwind and immediately laid siege on the Celtic defence, however the Celtic 'keeper, Craig Kearney was in superb form between the posts, denying the visitors with a string of fine saves.
Then, against the run of play, Palatine took the lead when they were awarded an indirect free kick in the Saints penalty area, the ball was tapped to Jason Kane and he lashed home from close range.
Fiacc's recovered their composure and got a deserved equaliser on 41 minutes when Dale Byrne converted a penalty to see the sides go into the break at 1-1. Celtic stepped up their performance after a stinging pep talk at half-time and David Cleary shaved the Saints woodwork twice for the home side.
They regained the lead when Kane headed home a probing David Kenny cross. With their tails up, Celtic should have been further ahead but a sequence of bad misses let Fiacc's off the hook.
The Saints were back on level terms on 65 minutes when Byrne headed home. The Saints now took the initiative and with 12 minutes remaining on the clock, they took the lead for the first time when Byrne completed his hat-trick.
With time running out, Palatine pushed on and four minutes from the end Kane got the final touch in a goalmouth scramble to see the sides level as he completed his own treble. For Palatine Celtic, 'keeper Craig Kearney was superb along with Jason Kane and Darren Foley. Top performers for St. Fiacc's were Dale Byrne, Padraigh Murphy and Liam Kearney.
