Fr Collins Park now a jewel in Fingal

HAVE you taken a trip down to Fr Collins Park recently and seen the transformation? Well a tremendous amount of work has been done on the north Dublin soccer venue in recent years.

And it is work which has been recognised as it was recently nominated in four categories for the Local Authority Members Awards including Best Public Park, Best Recreational Facility and Best Sporting Facility (not publicly funded).

And at last week's award ceremony at the Burlington Hotel it won the award for Best Public Park beating similar facilities in Tallaght, Carlow, Roscommon, Kilkenny and North Tipperary and was a worthy winner.

The Donaghmede facility is host to a number of sporting clubs, amongst them Trinity Donaghmede FC who have numerous teams in the Brenfer League.

Trinity Donaghmede have the benefit of being able to use two small sided pitches, plus two full sized pitches and have the use of a third. There are also modern dressing rooms and various meeting rooms, while the park also has a GAA pitch too.

The facility on the Hole in the Wall Road has certainly come a long way from what it was like many years ago. Now with some excellent pitches, a wonderful clubhouse it shows what can be done with proper investment.

Now at least the kids of both soccer and GAA clubs have a much better playing surface on which to play and proper changing facilities. The park itself also has a playground for kids, skate park, running/walking track and has certainly made a difference to the locality.

Clubs set out on road to May Bank Holiday

IT'S a big night for the small sided section of the League tonight when the draws for the various Cup competitions take place.

The Oscar Traynor Centre at eight o'clock is the place and venue for the eagerly awaited draws. And managers, players and club officials are all welcome to attend.

There will be semi-finals draws for the under 8s through to the under 10s, while the quarter final draws for the Prem Plus Cups will also take place.

The League have also set the dates for those Cup ties. The quarter finals of the Under 9 and Under 10 Prem Plus Cup will be on Saturday February 27, with the semi-finals on Saturday March 20.

The semi-finals for all other Under 8s to Under 10 Cup fixtures will be on Saturday March 6.

Of course the big day for the small sided game will be the Cup Finals extravaganza which this year will be over the May Bank Holiday.

Don't forget to file your small-sided results

CLUBS in the small sided game are reminded that they should send their weekly results to Brendan Renwick at 086 1016878 or email to brendan@ndsl.ie
