A Pat Fitzgerald goal at the start of the second half gave Bohs all three points after as came out on top against a gallant Waterford Crystal in a cracking Under 14 contest played in Ben Wadding Park.

Bohs went into the game as red hot favourities but Crystal surprised them with a hard working performance, Bohs had the pressure early in the game but Crystal keeper Declan Doyle was in superb form and the rest of the Crystal team worked their socks off to keep the Bohs strikers at bay and that kept the Crystal lads in the game right up to the final whistle.

Bohs will be disappointed as they had seventy per cent of the ball but they were wasteful in front of goal.

Bohs were first out of the blocks and they created the first goalscoring chance after six minutes, Dean Reidy cut inside and took on two Crystal defenders before firing in a left foot shot that just cleared the crossbar with Crystal keeper Declan Doyle beaten.

On ten minutes Bohs were on the attack again, this time centre forward Eoin Cleary controlled a long ball from Jack Hale but Cleary's shot on the turn was pushed past the post by Doyle. Crystal were playing a containing game as Bohs went on the all out attack, however Crystal caught Bohs with a swift counter attack on fifteen minutes. Cory Kavanagh broke up a Bohs attack and played the ball out wide to Michael McDonagh his pass released Shane Elliott the Crystal striker took his shot on the run but Jack Hale got across to make a goal saving tackle.

Back came Bohs and Geoff Tebay was unlucky to see his twenty five yard effort crash against the crossbar with Doyle in trouble.

Minutes later Pat Fitzgerald got behind the Crystal defence but his powerful angled drive was superbly saved by Declan Doyle.

Once again Crystal counter attacked and Tadagh McCombe beat the Bohs off side trap but his cross shot flew wide of the far post, then Dylan Robinson found room on the far but his low drive was well saved by Shane Ryan at his far post. The last chance of the first half fell to Bohs when Tebay whipped in a corner kick to the near post Jason English was first to react but he failed to keep his header down and the ball sailed over the bar.

Crystal would have been the happier of the two teams at the half time break but Bohs caught them cold at the start of the second half as the home team scored on forty minutes, Dean Reidy took a free kick near the half way line, the Crystal defence defence failed to clear and Pat Fitzgerald took full advantage as he scored from close range after his first shot came back off Doyle to give Bohs the lead.

It looked as if Bohs would push on from here but Crystal showed real resilience and despite losing striker Shane Elliott to injury Crystal came roaring back into the game. Crystal got on top in mid field with the impressive pair of Cory Kavanagh and Nathan Phelan driving them on and both teams had chances in the later stages of the game, Des Hutchinson and Cleary went close for Bohs and a fine run and shot by Nathan Phelan saw Crystal stay in touch, Crystal went close to taking a point but Bohs held out to claim victory.
