Arklow Town ace signs for Blades

Standing room only in the Arklow Bay Hotel on Monday evening last as Arklow Town Football Club staged their end of season awards.

Enjoying yet another immensely successful season a wide array of trophies were handed out to the many winning teams in both senior and junior sections. Town's Leinster Senior League Senior 1 Division championship winning side and the Leinster Youth FA Cup winners were rightly acknowledged.

Once again in schoolboy/girl competition Arklow Town Football Club has dominated at many age levels within WDSL football.

Centre of attention on the evening though was Town's rising young stars, Aaron Barry who signedprofessional terms with Sheffield United.

Aaron's final appearance for the club, a Leinster FA Youth Cup Final in Dalymount Park, Town where Aaron remained coollness personified, to successfully convert his spot kick as Arklow duly went on to land an historic LFA Youth Cup title. He now becomes the second Arklow Town player to swap the black and white of Arklow for the red and white stripes of Sheffield. Former clubmate Shane Murray moved to Sheffield last summer.

Murray was recognised in some quarters as man of the match in the televised Milk Cup Final clash between the Sheffield side's youngsters and Manchester United.
