Jewell jostles to hold onto Andrews

IPSWICH TOWN boss Paul Jewell has not given up hope of signing Ireland man Keith Andrews from Blackburn Rovers on a permanent deal despite interest from Premier League side Swansea City.

"I can assure supporters that we definitely want to keep them. If there's Premier League interest in them both then obviously it makes it very difficult for us, but I am certainly not resigned to losing them just yet," Jewell said of Andrews and Danny Collins, who are both on loan to Ipswich.

"If possible we would like to get them on permanent deals, but they've both got more than a year left on Premier League contracts."

PAT FENLON has confirmed that he will not be offering a contract at Hibernians to Sligo Rovers trialist Iarflaith Davoren.

The fullback was one of two players on trial in Edinburgh last week but Fenlon will not be following up his interest.

"We won't be doing anything presently on either of them," Fenlon said. "We don't want to bring in players just for the sake of bringing in players. If they come in then they have to be an improvement on what we have."

IRISH teenager Mikey Drennan made Aston Villa fans sit up and take note when he scored the winner for their reserves in a 2-1 win against Swansea City last night. Compatriots Derrick Williams and Samir Carruthers were also in action for Villa.
