WOLVES boss Kenny Jackett was delighted to see new Ireland U21 cap Liam McAlinden net his first goal for the promotion-chasing side, writes AIDAN FITZMAURICE.

McAlinden made his first appearance for the Republic's U21 team against Montenegro last month after a long delay as FIFA needed time to clear the paperwork relating to his 'switch' from the Northern Ireland set-up.

The striker has had to be patient at Molineux this season but he popped up with the only goal of the game as Wolves beat MK Dons 1-0 to move closer to a return to the Championship.

"I'm delighted for Liam McAlinden to get his first league goal for Wolves in front of those 9,000 away fans," said Jackett.

"He's a local lad and I was delighted for him on a personal level. He is a young forward who I have got a lot of time for and I am sure that was a great moment for him."
