Italy call up uncapped players

ITALY'S COACH Cesare Prandelli has decided to gamble with his Euro 2012 squad as he has named a batch of uncapped players in his provisional squad for the tournament.

Ireland and Croatia have already named their squads for the finals and last night Prandelli announced a provisional 32-man panel for Euro 2012, though that will of course be reduced to 23 by the end of this month.

Old stagers like Gianluigi Buffon and Andrea Pirlo are included, and Prandelli has also found a spot for Manchester City's controversial Mario Balotelli.

Key defender Giorgio Chiellini is included but he is a major doubt for the tournament after suffering a thigh strain in action for Juventus last night.

Siena striker Destro, Emanuele Giaccherini (Juventus), Atalanta's Ezequiel Schelotto, teenager Marco Verratti and Bologna's Alessandro Diamanti have all been named in the squad even though they are uncapped, while fringe players like Salvatore Bocchetti (Rubin Kazan) are also included.
