Irish U19 girls into semi-finals

IRELAND'S U19 girls side are now just 90 minutes away from a place in the European Championship finals after they reached the semi-finals with a superb win over Sweden in Norway last night.

Managed by Dave Connell, the Irish girls were making a first-ever appearance at the tournament.

But they showed no sign of nerves and have topped their group after three straight wins in the group stage over England, Spain and the Swedes.

They now take on the Dutch in the semi-final on Thursday, hoping to win through to Sunday's final where they'd face either Norway or Spain.

Ireland had to fight hard for their win as they were a goal down after only eight minutes.

But a strike from Savannah McCarthy on 21 minutes got them level, and with 10 minutes of normal time left, Megan Connolly came up with the winner.
