Irish clubs’ Euro rivals

St Patrick's Athletic
v Legia Warsaw (Poland)

Dates: (a) July 15, (h) July 22 (TBC)

Past history: apart from an Intertoto Cup win (2003), Irish clubs have struggled against Polish opposition.

Fans: Pat's fans will love a jaunt to Warsaw in July, and direct flights (Aer Lingus, Ryanair) make this a dream trip.

Team: Probably the hardest draw they could have got.

Star names: Lots. Legia manager is ex-Manchester United man Henning Berg but the squad is packed with quality, 11 senior internationals.

Next round: Not yet made.

Derry City v
Aberystwyth Town (Wales)

Dates: (h) July 3, (a) July 10

Past history: poor, Irish clubs struggled in recent meetings with Welsh clubs, Longford (2005) and Bohemians (2010) knocked out.

Fans: Aberystwyth is easy to reach but reduced capacity at the ground will make it hard for City fans to get tickets.

Team: Best draw possible for Peter Hutton's side.

Next round: Derry, if they win, will face Shakhtyor Soligursk (Belarus).

Dundalk v Jeunesse d'Esch (Luxembourg)

Dates: (a) July 1, (h)July 10

Past history: Good, Dundalk beat a Luxembourg side in their last Euro venture (2010).

Fans: Nice trip to Esch for the Dundalk fans.

Team: In form and fully fit, Dundalk should get through.

Next round: Winners play
Croatian side Hajduk Split

Sligo Rovers v FC Banga
(Lithuania)

Dates: (a) July 3, (h) July 10

Past history: Sligo's Euro record is dismal.

Fans: Nightmare trip, Banga play in Gargždai, 280km from Vilnius.

Team: Good draw for Sligo against a club which has only played in Europe once before

Next round: Sligo would play winners from Rosenborg v
Jelgava (Latvia).
