Ireland pressure is on me says Long

IRELAND'S £7million man Shane Long fears that he will miss out on Ireland's Euro 2012 squad.

Long made an astonishing return from injury as the striker -- who last month suffered a potentially career-threatening knee injury against Aston Villa -- popped up to score the winner for West Brom against Bolton on Saturday.

That injury kept Long out of Ireland's Euro 2012 playoff against Estonia and though the Tipperary lad was in Dublin for the celebrations on Tuesday, he admits that he fears for his place in the squad with threats from strikers like Jonathan Walters and club-mate Simon Cox.

"The international squad will meet up a few times before the Euros, but getting your name on the team-sheet in the first place is down to how you are playing at club level," says Long.

"There is stiff competition here at Albion and I know that I need to perform week in, week out, to keep my name on the team-sheet."

Long played just five times in the 12-game qualifying campaign for Ireland.
