MICK McCarthy wants to add yet another Irish player to the squad at Ipswich Town as he's close to sealing a deal for former international keeper Paddy Kenny.

The 36-year-old has been released by Bolton Wanderers, after a spell where Kenny failed to make a first-team appearance for the club, and McCarthy now wants to take Kenny to Portman Road as cover.

Kenny (pictured) joined Bolton last September after his contract with Leeds United was cancelled but he was unable to work his way into Neil Lennon's side.

The ex-Sheffield United man recently had a spell on loan to League One outfit Oldham but that was a disaster as Kenny conceded 11 goals in his last two games there.

Ipswich currently have Ireland players Daryl Murphy, Noel Hunt, Stephen Hunt, David McGoldrick and Jay Tabb in the first team.
