MICK McCarthy says he has high hopes for Ireland U21 cap Dylan Connolly at Ipswich Town in the coming season.

The Tractor Boys yesterday reported back for pre-season training, though Ireland pair Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick were allowed an extended summer break due to their involvement in the matches against England and Scotland last month.

Connolly joined Ipswich from Shelbourne last season and the youngster progressed quickly to make it into the first team squad though is still awaiting his début, but McCarthy is keen to see more of Connolly. "I hope the lads that we've got that we didn't see last year, Dylan Connolly, who was excellent in the U21s, I'm hoping he'll flourish as well," said McCarthy, who also hopes to promote ex-Shels man Adam McDonnell.
