ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC scored both goals as Sweden beat the Faroe Islands 2-0 in a World Cup qualifier in Stockholm last night.

The Sweden captain opened the scoring in the 35th minute after the Faroes' defence failed to clear Mikael Lustig's cross.

The hosts dominated possession but lacked finishing, squandering several chances before Ibrahimovic converted a penalty in the 82nd minute to seal the expected victory.

The goal came two minutes after Sweden were reduced to 10 men, with Andreas Granqvist being sent off for retaliating against Frodi Benjaminsson.

The win means Sweden move up to third place in Group C, level on 11 points with second placed Austria and the Republic of Ireland and five behind leader Germany after six games.
