CHRIS HUGHTON insists that Ireland star Wes Hoolahan - a transfer target for Aston Villa - is still part of his plans and is not on his way out of Carrow Road.

Speculation about Hoolahan's future increased when he was left on the bench for the Canaries in Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Everton.

"There has been lots of speculation but I don't respond to speculation, I respond to facts and the facts are he is a Norwich City player," said Hughton.

"He was in my thoughts to play in this game and he is a strong part of the squad. I didn't play Wes because of a combination of things," said Hughton.

"Wes played in the last two league games but was injured for the FA Cup. He was very much in my thoughts.

The future of Baggies star Shane Long is also up in the air as Hull City boss Steve Bruce says he's still keen to sign Long.

Long insists he's in the dark over a possible move.

"There's always going to be rumours," he said after Saturday's defeat to Southampton.

"I'll try and keep myself away from it and just concentrate on the next game."
