Shamrock Rovers' new signing Killian Brennan wants to make sure that the 2016 season is not a one-horse race which would see Dundalk land their third title in a row.

Some bookmakers have Stephen Kenny's side listed as odds-on favourites to win the Premier Division this season and for Brennan, back at Tallaght Stadium for a second spell, it's up to clubs like his to stop that happening.

"Someone has to make a challenge to Dundalk this season, whether that's ourselves, or Cork City, or St Pats," says Brennan ahead of the Hoops' first game of the season tonight, away to a new-look Sligo Rovers (7.45).

"To be honest, no one has really given Dundalk a challenge so that has to be the main objective for us, and the other clubs who hope to be in contention. I hope we can win something this season and if we can get off to a good start, we have a great chance."

Also tonight, Dundalk begin the defence of their league title away to Bray Wanderers (7.30pm) a clash of two very different squads. Dundalk have just two few faces in their panel while Bray retained only three members of their 2015 squad, Mick Cooke hoping his 17 new signings can blend in.

"We have a tough opener in Bray. We know that and we know that every single week no one will give us anything this year. We know that we have to earn the right to win," said Dundalk boss Stephen Kenny.
