Hodgson: I am leaving it to Jack

ROY Hodgson has resisted the urge to pile even more pressure on Jack Grealish to declare for England and has not named him in his squad for the Aviva friendly on June 7.

But Hodgson has left no doubt that England are actively monitoring Grealish: "Dan Ashworth (technical director), Gareth Southgate (U-21) and Aidy Boothroyd (U-20) have been in regular contact with him, his family and his advisors," said Hodgson.

"So he's fully aware that if he wants to play for England, we'd be very happy to take him. I think it's important that we leave it to him. He is a very talented player and has been on the radar of our younger teams," he said.

"I have known about him and recently he has broken into the Aston Villa team, which raises the subject.

"He could play for either country, which one's it going to be? As far as I'm concerned it's got to be Jack's decision and I don't think we should be putting undue influence on him."

"But he has to 100% be allowed to decide himself and it should not be in particular telling him to change allegiance if that is not what he wants to do."

Hodgson stressed that the onus is on the player to be sure about what he wants to do: "If he doesn't want to play or he has doubts, then don't play. We are doing them a favour by picking them - not them doing us a favour by turning up."

England squad: Rob Green (QPR), Joe Hart (Manchester City), Tom Heaton (Burnley), Ryan Bertrand (Southampton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Nathaniel Clyne (Southampton), Kieran Gibbs (Arsenal), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Phil Jones (Manchester United), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), Ross Barkley (Everton), Fabian Delph (Aston Villa), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Adam Lallana (Liverpool), Ryan Mason (Tottenham), James Milner (Manchester City), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Andros Townsend (Tottenham Hotspur), Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal), Charlie Austin (Queens Park Rangers), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Jamie Vardy (Leicester) Danny Welbeck (Arsenal).
