Heisterkamps help St Kilian's into showpiece

ST KILIAN'S DSD are the first finalist of the 2013/2014 schools soccer season after cruising to the Leinster Senior B Girls Cup showpiece.

The south Dubliners are now just one victory away from claiming boys and girls titles in back-to-back seasons at Under-19 level.

The German school's senior boys team made up for final defeat 12 months earlier when they claimed the Senior B crown with an emphatic final win.

The Kilian's girls were not too far off making it a unique double last time out as they were only eliminated in the semi-finals by eventual winners and beaten All-Ireland finalists Ramsgrange Community School.

The Wexford school could yet be final opponents for Kilian's as they face Kilkenny's Scoil Aireagail in the other final-four clash.

However, the capital side will not fear Ramsgrange after cruising beyond the threat of another Model County school, Coláiste Abbain.

Heisterkamp sisters, Anna and Nina, were on target at either end of an emphatic 4-1 victory for the 2010 tournament winners. Anna's early opener was followed up by a second Kilian's goal from Tara Junghenn, before Abbain hit back with a goal of their own.

It was not until stoppage time that Kilian's re-established their two-goal lead with a quick-fire counter-attack strike from Anna, before Nina joined her on the scoresheet seconds later.

The first of this year's schools soccer finals is scheduled to take place in the second week of January.

BALBRIGGAN BAG NATIONAL BRONZE

THERE was no glory for Leinster this year at the FAI Schools First Year National Futsal Finals.

Despite hosting the prestigious showpiece at Franciscan College, Gormanston in Meath once again, home advantage was not enough for the boys from Dublin and girls from Kilkenny to come out on top.

Balbriggan Community College were looking to follow in the footsteps of Dublin Oak and add national glory to their Leinster crown at last week's finals.

Despite some impressive victories, Balbriggan were edged into third place by eventual winners CBS Sexton Street of Limerick and runners-up Summerhill College, Sligo.

In the girls' section Loreto Secondary School, Kilkenny were able to go one better and record a runners-up position. Despite an opening-game 2-1 loss to eventual winners Sacred Heart Westport – Orla Casey on target – Loreto Fermoy were beaten 2-0 in game two thanks to a double from the same player.

Casey was again on target in a 1-1 draw with Scoil Mhuire, Buncrana, before Westport inflicted another loss – 3-0 this time – on the Leinster side. Casey scored the only goal of the final game in a 1-0 success over Scoil Mhuire.
