Glennon's goal puts Sylvester's on road back to top of table

ST SYLVESTER'S availed of Na Fianna's night off to claim top spot in the Dublin Adult Football League Division 1 table following their 1-15 to 0-6 win over Fingal Ravens in Rolestown last Saturday evening.

With the sides locked at 0-5 apiece at the interval, David Glennon's 34th minute goal put a bit of daylight between the teams with Darren Clarke, Glennon and fellow inside-forward Nigel Dunne pushing the Malahide men further clear as the half progressed.

The hosts continued to battle gamely but lacked a cutting edge in attack and Sylvester's held out comfortably with midfielder Ross Hazley and defenders Gavin McArdle and Colm Hanratty making vital contributions.

At the opposite end of the table, Parnell's eased their relegation concerns with a comfortable 1-12 to 0-8 victory over fellow strugglers Trinity Gaels at St David's College.

Cormac Surgue's goal proved crucial for the hosts who saw out the game with Conor Talty, centre-back Colm Begley, John Peyton, MJ Tierney and Darren Rooney all featuring prominently for Brian Talty's men.

STRENGTHENED

In Division 2, St Maur's strengthened their grip at the top of the table with a 2-13 to 1-6 win over Naomh Fionnbarra in Cabra.

Chris Moore's fortunate goal after the break proved the turning point for the Rush team who pushed on through the displays of Chris Carthy, Ciarán Reddin, Danny Byrne, Niall Walsh, Mick O'Malley and Ciarán Sweetman, with Mark McGrath's goal confirming the two points for the visitors.

In Shankill, Cuala continued their push for a play-off spot with a hard earned 1-12 to 1-10 win over Raheny with their half-forward line of Scott O'Brien, Adam Hudson and Ronan Sweeney instrumental to their victory.

James Power impressed at full-forward for the Dalkey outfit while Donal Lehman and Phil O'Donnell were also central as Cuala delivered a serious blow to Raheny's promotion ambitions.
