Given passes Stoke medical

Aston Villa's Republic of Ireland keeper Shay Given has passed a medical with Stoke City ahead of a proposed move.

The 39-year-old spent three months on loan at Middlesbrough during the 2013-14 season and the Championship side looked set to sign him on a permanent deal earlier in the week. But Stoke appear to have trumped Boro for his signature, with Aston Villa likely to release him from the final year of his contract. Mark Hughes' Stoke squad fly out to Singapore this week with Asmir Begovic in their tour party, despite the Potters' No 1 'keeper having been linked with Chelsea and Manchester United.

Sevilla have completed the signing of Stoke midfielder Steven Nzonzi in a £7million deal. The 26-year-old has signed a four-year deal with the Spanish side, who have inserted a E30million buy-out clause in his contract, after undergoing a medical yesterday morning.
