Gibson starts in Toffees win

IRELAND midfielder Darron Gibson (right) started for Everton last night to help his side progress to the last 16 of the Europa League at the expense of Swiss outfit Young Boys of Berne.

The Toffees dealt comfortably with the early setback of a Sekou Sanogo Junior goal for Young Boys in the 12th minute, going in 3-1 to the good at the interval. The home side got back on level terms in the 24th minute from the penalty spot as Romelu Lukaku converted after Marco Wölfli had committed a foul in the penalty area.

And it was Lukaku who gave Everton the lead four minutes later with a left-footed shot from the centre of the box finding the bottom left corner following a cross from Luke Garbutt. After a heavy spell of pressure, Everton hit a deserved third goal in the 41st minute through Kevin Mirallas to seal an aggregate 7-2 win.
