ROBERTO Martinez expects Darron Gibson to play a "big role" for Everton this season.
The 26-year-old has not played a competitive game for the Toffees in 11 months due to a knee injury but he is back in the Toffees squad and could feature in Thursday's Europa League clash with Wolfsburg.
"Darron was on the bench on Saturday and played 70 minutes for the Republic of Ireland against Oman and he's looked really sharp in training," said Martinez.
"I have no worries about his fitness - he is ready - and he is going to play a big, important role this season.
"It is not bad for me to have so many good players in certain positions because the competition is what keeps players at their best moment of form and Darron, clearly, is important for that."
