Gers' Beasley keen for SPL winter break Balotelli 'tired' of racist fans

DaMarcus Beasley has called for a winter break to be introduced in Scotland after watching the weather wreak havoc on the fixture card.

Several Scottish Cup ties set to take place this weekend have already been postponed, with severe conditions showing no signs of letting up.

But Beasley admits that, more than anything, he would like a few weeks off work during the holiday period so he could see more of family and friends back home in the United States.

The 27-year-old USA winger recently confessed he would be spending Christmas Day on his own and insisted: "I think there should be a winter break.

"My first year when I was at PSV (Eindhoven) we had a winter break but the second year they changed it and it was like Britain and they didn't have one.

"I enjoyed having a break, especially as a foreigner. From July to May, we don't get to go home and see our families much.

"For me, I would definitely want a break but other people don't see it that way."

Beasley says he has suffered as a result of heavy snowfall, admitting: "I've had a couple of problems. The BMWs are not the best in the snow and I had to get pulled out twice."

Balotelli 'tired' of racist fans

Inter Milan striker Mario Balotelli has accused Chievo fans of racially abusing him in Wednesday's Serie A match and claimed he is "tired of always hearing racist chants" when he is playing.

Balotelli was today fined €7,000 for provoking the Chievo fans by clapping when he was substituted, having scored the winner in Inter's 1-0 win.

The 19-year-old made his feelings plain in a post-match interview and today released a statement emphasising his "disgust" at his booers.

Balotelli said: "I do not apologise to those who insulted me. But I do apologise to those who were innocent and whom I offended through my expressions of exasperation at the boos I received during the game and as I left the pitch.

"I should have made it clear that the fans in Verona and around Italy who boo me disgust me. Instead of enjoying a good game, they prefer to insult me.

"I am tired of always hearing racist chants when I'm on the pitch. It doesn't happen just at Verona. I was ashamed to hear my own Inter fans booing Chievo's Luciano. It's a disgrace which must end."

Inter were today also fined €15,000 by the Lega Calcio, who said a small number of their supporters racially abused a Chievo player.
