IRELAND keeper David Forde is close to agreeing a new deal with Millwall even though he has been linked with a move away from the Lions, writes AIDAN FITZMAURICE.

Swansea City are on the lookout for a new keeper and they could make a bid to sign Shay Given on loan when his current loan deal with Middlesbrough expires, while Michael Laudrup's side have also been linked with a summer move for Forde.

As he approaches his 34th birthday, Forde knows that the next contract could be his last major one, so he is determined to make the right call and that could lead to a new deal with the Lions.

"I had a chat with the chairman last week and it was a good, positive chat," said Forde.

"We are still talking at the moment, but if conditions are favourable and terms are right, I would envisage myself staying.

"I have waited so long to play for my country and I don't want to give it up now, so that's a big factor in my thinking.

"I am lucky enough to be in a job I love doing, but I want to be able to provide for my family."
