Sad news came with the passing of Joe Corcoran.

Joe was one of the great pillars of Irish football.

A proud man of Raytown. The celebrated Cambridge Boys. The scout for Manchester United.

He lived just a sharp pass away from Ringsend Park, the arena that inspired many a fine footballer.

And Joe spent thousands of hours in the parks and grounds of the fair city, looking for the next lad to put on the plane to Old Trafford.

He sent many a star over. He did a top job following in the foot-steps of the legendary Billy Behan.

Joe could quickly spot a player. He'd look for the touch, the effort, the temperament.

High standards at Manchester United. Only the best would do.

And United had the best man on the case.

He gave years and years to his beloved DDSL - the Dublin and District School League.

The game meant so much. It was in his heart.

It something concerned him, he wouldn't be slow to give his view.

So often, you'd see Joe at a game, deep in conversation with a group, airing his opinion and sharing all the news.

He loved sport. You could find him following the rugby at Seapoint, or texting a good tip for a horse to Alex Ferguson.

He had a quiet sense of humour. He enjoyed the banter. He was interested in people.

He wasn't a big fan of over-coaching the kids and burdening them with systems.

He delighted in seeing footballers playing off the cuff. Like they used to do on the streets of Ringsend.

And that's where he'll be missed the most.
