Folan flourishes in US with brace

CALEB Folan has already made his mark in US soccer -- scoring twice for his new club Colorado Rapids.

The Ireland striker joined Colorado last month after an injury-hit spell at Hull City and he caught the eye with a two-goal blast in their 4-1 win over Washington DC-based side DC United.

"I'm pleased with the performance, more pleased with the team performance and the win," said Folan.

"I had a few injuries in recent times and was wanting a new challenge.

"It was great to come out here initially, and playing again is a great feeling. I still don't feel quite where I want to be, but the more I play and the more I gel with the lads, I'm sure I'll get to feel comfortable. "

Folan has not played for Ireland since the 1-0 win over South Africa in September 2009.

IRELAND international Paul Green is out for the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury.

The midfielder, who won his ninth cap against Uruguay last week, was stretchered off during Derby's' 4-1 defeat to Cardiff City on Saturday, one of two Rams players injured on the day along with Gareth Roberts, and Green could now be out until next September.

"We suspect it is knee ligament damage for both of them. If that is the case and our fears are confirmed, they will be out for the rest of the season and both could be looking at a spell on the sidelines," said boss Nigel Clough.
