Shamrock Rovers captain Ronan Finn wants to see the Hoops with a more clinical edge as they try to mount a title challenge.

Rovers got their first win of the season, beating Bohemians 2-1 in the Dublin derby on Friday night.

While Stephen Bradley's side merited their victory it was a nervy finish as their 2-0 lead, thanks to goals from Brandon Miele (58 minutes) and Michael O'Connor (73) was pegged back to 2-1 with a late penalty from Georgie Poynton, Bohs then appealing for another penalty after an apparent hand ball in the box by Roberto Lopes.

"When you go 2-0 up should should be able to put the other team away, go 3-0 or 4-0 up if you can," says Finn.

"They didn't have too many chances in the game but it was still a tight finish. We were in control at 2-0 but when the opposition get it back to 2-1 you could end up dropping points, so we need to learn from that.

"We need to be able to get that third goal and kill the game off, but we will learn," added Finn. "It was good to get the win as it was a tough game in difficult conditions but we deserved the three points. It was a good atmosphere.

"Friday proved that there will be no easy games this season, throughout the year you will see teams dropping points so it's important to pick up wins like the one we got on Friday," added Finn.

"The likes of Dundalk and Cork are already putting a run of wins together so we need to get wins on the board."

Next up for Rovers is a home game with a Derry City side who had their match at 'home' to Limerick in Buncrana abandoned due to floodlight failure.
