WESLEY SNEIJDER has become Wesley Sheyster – pricing himself out of a move to Old Trafford with an eye-watering £12m salary demand.
The Dutch international is desperate to leave Inter but Alex Ferguson is not prepared to trash his wage structure or shift from his policy of not paying over the odds for players over the age of 26.
Now Sneijder must wait to see if Roberto Mancini can put his hands on the £80m package needed to fund the deal before the transfer window closes or lower his £200,000-a-week wage demand to get the move he wants.
Sources at Old Trafford claim that Ferguson ran out of patience several weeks back and that efforts to secure one of the few quality playmakers in the game have been put on hold. But with more than two weeks to go to the transfer deadline and Sneijder increasingly anxious to leave Milan, a reduced demand from the Dutchman might see Ferguson rekindle his interest.
