Fergie hits out at Nani

ALEX FERGUSON has singled out disgruntled winger Nani as the reason Manchester United lost a remarkable League Cup tie 5-4 after extra-time at Stamford Bridge, writes Paul Hyland.

Nani, the subject of much speculation about his Old Trafford future, scored a sublime goal during a rip-roaring Cup tie but lost possession in the dying seconds while Manchester United held a slender 3-2 lead.

"We gave the ball away for the third goal having been in complete control of the match at that point," Ferguson said. "All we needed to do was see the game out with good possession.

"Nani is experienced but he's a player who wants to beat men and I often discourage him from that. In that situation, if we'd kept the ball at the corner flag, the game's over."

Ireland international Robbie Brady was a disappointed spectator on the night, forced to kick his heels on the bench while Ferguson dug deep into his reserves for options.
