Fergie faith in Berbatov form

ALEX FERGUSON has tipped Dimitar Berbatov to come good for Manchester United this season and finally deliver a return on his mammoth transfer fee.

Berbatov will start on Sunday and Ferguson has admitted that his absence from United’s midweek Champions League draw with Rangers was crucial.

"His form has been absolutely fantastic. He has been one of our best players this season and his ability to create in tight situations could have made a difference,” said Ferguson.

“We took a calculated risk and we still had enough big players to get a result. Now we look forward to Sunday.

“It’s a different game. I don’t think Liverpool play five at the back, maybe six.”

The Old Trafford boss had some good news about Antonio Valencia and now expects the Ecudorian winger to be back after his horrific leg break in February.

“You can never be 100% accurate in these situations and it is a bad injury, but we are looking at the end of February, which is better than we thought on Tuesday,” he said.

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson put out a virtual reserve team against Steaua Bucharest in the Europa Cup last night and Hodgson rested both Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard for Sunday’s big clash.

“For us the league is of vital importance and because we've got so many players playing international football we have to give them a break from time to time because I fear by Christmas if we didn't some of them would be burnt out - particularly those that went to the World Cup,” said Hodgson after the 4-1 win.

“It's great for me to see that the players who came into the side against Steaua can do the job.”

Ferguson also had some good news from his reserves when £7.5m summer buy Bebe made his debut in a 4-1 defeat by Aston Villa’s second string.
