IF Elfsborg have announced the death of their 46-year-old manager Klas Ingesson to cancer.
Ingesson, who played for Sheffield Wednesday for two years during a far-reaching career, had been suffering from multiple myeloma since 2009.
Despite contracting the incurable illness, the former Sweden international continued to work and managed the Allsvenska side to considerable success.
He did so aided by first a walking frame to support his brittle bones and latterly a wheelchair. He missed his side's Swedish Cup final win over Helsingborgs IF after falling out of his chair when being pushed across the field at half-time during an earlier league match.
A statement issued by Elfsborg read: "It is a very sad statement to make that Klas Ingesson this morning (Wednesday) passed away.
"Our thoughts are foremost with his wife and children who were with him at the end."
The club are holding an immediate memorial for Ingesson, who took the job at the Boras Arena in 2013.
