'Don't go' plea to Martinez

WIGAN chairman Dave Whelan has told Roberto Martinez to look carefully before he leaps at an offer from the Fenway Sports Group to manage Liverpool.

Martinez cut short his holiday in Barbados to fly to meet FSG in Miami and speculation suggests that an offer is on the table.

But Whelan, who allowed Martinez to speak to Liverpool, reckons that his manager should look hard at the detail before he makes a decision to leave the DW Stadium behind.

"My information is that the new Liverpool manager will not be given full responsibility of the football department," claimed Whelan.

"My advice to Roberto is to think very carefully about this. From what I am hearing the new Liverpool set-up on the football side goes well beyond the norm even with a director of football."
