Derby still keen on signing striker Madden

DERBY COUNTY manager Nigel Clough has promised to take another look at Bohemians' U21 international striker Paddy Madden, writes AIDAN FITZMAURICE.

Clough came to Dublin to spy on Madden in last week's derby against Shamrock Rovers but the forward, also a target for Celtic, did little to impress in the game, though Clough says he hasn't written off Madden just yet.

"We are keeping an eye on him and will watch him again," said Clough. "Irish football is a good market because the standard isn't a million miles off the Championship.

"Shamrock Rovers played Juventus in Europe last week and the record of Irish lads coming over here is tremendous.

"Like the Scottish market, it's not a bad one for us to look at.

"We have one eye on bringing in a player or two for the first-team squad but we are also looking to bring players in to develop.

"It's about finding the right ones and we will keep looking and assessing if they are better than what we have got," Clough said.
