Daly delighted to sign up for two years with Rangers

Rangers have confirmed the signing of Jon Daly from Dundee United.

The 30-year-old has signed a two-year contract for the Third Division champions and is the first southern Irishman to play for the Ibrox side in 80 years.

A statement from the club said: "Forward Jon Daly will play for Rangers next season after agreeing a two-year contract with the club, effective from September 1.

"Daly has spent the last six and a half years playing in the SPL for Dundee United, scoring 70 goals for the Arabs in all competitions."

The former Cherry Orchard man held talks with McCoist before accepting the offer and spoke of his enthusiasm for the new challenge.

Explaining the reason why he is dropping down two divisions, Daly said: "The ambition is to go and play in front of 45,000 to 50,000 every week. Dundee United are a big club, but the fanbase at Rangers is massive."
