Corrib take the glory

Corrib Rangers B brought the Galway Junior soccer season to a conclusion when they annexed the Jack Lillis Cup with a 3-1 victory over Craughwell United at Eamonn Deacy Park.

The winners made the initial breakthrough just before the interval when Jamie Sherry finished off an Ollie Rafferty cross and despite enjoying the majority of possession it took them until just past the hour mark to make it 2-0.

Sherry was again the finisher following a Noel McDonagh delivery.

Sherry was denied a hat trick by a smart Kevin Sayers save, but McDonagh was following up to add the third.

Craughwell got a late reward courtesy of a Keelan Greene header as he finished off a Gareth Belton cross.

Mervue United completed a hat trick of Youth titles when they defeated Hibernians by 1-0 in the Galway U18 Cup decider. Richard Fahy notched the extra time winner from the spot, after Dillon Murphy was upended in the box.

Justin Neary's charges had previously won the Connacht Youth Cup and the local League, where they again pipped Hibernians by a point.

Bearna Na Forbacha clinched the U15 Cup with a comprehensive 5-0 win over Hibs Foyle. Evan Coyne (two), Ernan McDonagh, Ross Medley and Caimin Rooney were all on the mark for the Connemara side.

There was no joy for the Galway League in the SFAI Inter League 13 Final at Cahir on Saturday afternoon for despite taking an early lead courtesy of an Aaron Connolly finish, they went down by 3-1 against the Cork League.
