Wigan boss Paul Cook hopes to complete a deal to sign former Ireland striker Noel Hunt.
The Waterford-born forward, released by Portsmouth at the end of last season, appeared for League One side Wigan in a friendly last weekend as a trialist and ex-Sligo boss Cook, who managed Hunt at Pompey, is hopeful of sealing a deal.
"Noel's great, he'll never let anyone down," Cook said.
"Hopefully something can get sorted out for Noel here in the short-term because I think he's a great influence on every dressing room he goes in.
"He's still got a massive part to play. His game management and experience is great."
