UCD recorded only their second victory of their Airtricity League Premier Division campaign when they defeated Bohs 1-0 in the Belfield Bowl last night.
Dean Clarke's ninth minute strike separated the sides as the students boosted their bid to climb out of the relegation zone as the leapfrogged Shels to go third from bottom. To add to Bohs' woes they had Keith Buckley sent off in the 89th minute on a straight red card.
The Students entered last night's clash on the back of a 2-0 loss to Shelbourne but shrugged off their lowly position to topple Aaron Callaghan's men.
For Bohs is was bad news coming hot on the heels of their recent hard-fought draws on the road against St Pat's Athletic and Drogheda United.
One glimmer of light for the northside Dubs was that their experienced defender Owen Heary returned to full competitive action after a month on the sidelines owing to a knee injury.
However, Heary marked his return by gaining a second half yellow card (63rd minute). Martin Russell's men travel to face Derry City in The Brandywell this Friday (7.45) while at the same time Bohs will enjoy home advantage in Dalymount Park for the visit of Cork City.
