BORUSSIA Dortmund have placed Ilkay Gundogan on the auction block after announcing that the talented midfielder will not be renewing his contract.
The move has prompted a blizzard of speculation about Gundogan's likely summer destination, with Manchester United, Arsenal and Bayern Munich on red alert.
With league titles in Germany, Italy, Holland and England all but wrapped up, speculation has moved into overdrive around key big name players.
And the German international has been at the heart of enduring rumours emanating from Old Trafford for a few seasons.
Louis van Gaal's pursuit of Mats Hummels has occupied most of the headlines but it now looks like he has targeted a Dortmund double and according to some sources, has all but done the deal.
Gundogan has been offered a meaty £4m a year new deal by Dortmund but has turned it down and is clearly expecting something even bigger from his new club.
His contract runs out in 2016 and van Gaal could get his man for a knockdown £20m, given Dortmund's dilemma.
Meanwhile, another van Gaal target, Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne, has been given ten days to make up his mind about a new deal by manager Ronald Koeman.
"We're still speaking with Clyney and his agent, but of course we have to know in ten days," Koeman said.
"The club is doing an offer, the maximum what we can do, and then we expect the player's answer."
