Chambers keen to make EA Cup final

JAMES Chambers is on the hunt for trophies with St Patrick's Athletic as he faces his former club Shamrock Rovers in the EA Sports Cup tonight.

The Saints host Rovers at Richmond Park (7.45) in the quarter-final and while Pats are challenging for the league title as well as preparing for a European campaign, ex-Hoop Chambers says the League Cup is being taken seriously by his side.

"The game is another chance to get to a final," says Chambers, who joined Pats from Scottish side Hamilton earlier this season.

"You play in the league for 10 or 15 years maybe, and there's not that many people who can say that they've played in or even been to a Cup final."

Sligo Rovers boss Ian Baraclough, meanwhile, says his side are itching to get back to action tonight after a longer than expected summer break.

League leaders Sligo were due to play Monaghan United last Saturday following the resumption of the league season, but that game didn't go ahead due to Monaghan's exit from the league, so tonight's EA Sports Cup home tie with Derry City sees Monaghan play for the first time in 25 days.

"The players are keen to get back on the pitch and I'm expecting a tough, tight game against a side that finished well before the break," said Baraclough.
