Cahill on his way to Fingal

SPORTING Fingal have swooped to sign veteran midfielder Ollie Cahill from Shamrock Rovers.

The former Cork City and Shelbourne man was allowed to leave Rovers last week after slipping down the pecking order in Tallaght and Fingal boss Liam Buckley was eager to add the experienced player to the squad, Cahill flying out to Portugal with his new team-mates yesterday ahead of Thursday's Europa League tie against Maritimo.

"When I heard Ollie became available on Thursday, I was keen to explore the possibility of signing him until the end of the season," says Buckley. "He's a player with a superb attitude and, similar to Colin Hawkins who we signed last week, has enjoyed a decorated career in the domestic game over the past 15 years.

"The fact he's able to play in defence, midfield or as a winger was a key factor for me."
