DEFENDER Liam Burns is poised to sign for Shamrock Rovers and help their bid to take the league title away from Bohemians.
Burns, who won the league with Bohs in 2008, spent last season with Dundalk but is now leaving Oriel Park and Rovers are favourites to sign the former Port Vale man.
Rovers began a pre-season training camp at Carton House yesterday and Burns was one of those invited to train with the Hoops with a view to signing later in the week. The Hoops are also hoping to sign midfielder Chris Turner, if he can extricate himself from an agreement he signed with Sligo Rovers last season.
Burns attended a PFAI-run course for out-of-contract players over the last fortnight, which has already helped some players find new clubs.
Former Ireland U21 cap Dave Freeman has joined Longford Town after a spell with Monaghan United, ex-Bray player John Flood has earned a contract offer from Shelbourne, while Sporting Fingal boss Liam Buckley is keen to sign Bobby Ryan, who is a free agent after leaving St Pats, while Joe Kendrick is in line for a return to Drogheda United.
