LIAM BUCKLEY has hailed the arrival of the latest player to come through the ranks at St Patrick's Athletic.
And the Saints boss believes that the success of players like Gavin Boyne and Ryan Coombes (pictured below) shows that young players can succeed at Richmond Park while the first team maintain their pursuit of a league and cup double.
Just as the highly-rated Jake Carroll came through the ranks last season, Coombes has emerged this term, making seven league appearances with form that has seen him earn a place in the Ireland U19 squad for their European Championship qualifiers later this month while Boyne made his league debut in Monday's 5-0 win over UCD.
"Gavin's only 18 but he's a very promising player and I hope he has a big future at this club," says manager Buckley.
"It's great for the fans to see young players come up through the ranks and into the first team. We have been delighted with the progress of Ryan Coombes and it's a sign of how things are going in the league, clubs need to be bringing young players through.
"These lads can play and we have a few more in our U19 side who can get a chance in time, you can't throw them all into the first team at the same time but they have a good chance here at this club."
