Blackrock's stern Patrician test

THE FAIS Leinster Senior Boys Cup final is within touching distance of this year's elite teams as the semi-finals approach.

The final-four line-ups have been decided and each side will be confident of going all the way.

Blackrock College became the first side to reach the semi-finals before Christmas when they humbled last year's runners-up St Joseph's CBS, Fairview 7-0.

Despite only leading by Brian Horgan's goal at half-time, Blackrock pulled away from St Joseph's in the second period, with the striker adding four more goals.

Blackrock could face the biggest test of their credentials next, however, when they take on Patrician SS, Newbridge.

Patrician announced their own pedigree by eliminating the holders Athlone College in round three. Another heavyweight, Chanel College, were up next and the Newbridge school really had to dig deep to advance.

On the other side of the draw, Confey College have reached the semi-finals for the first time after a 2-1 win over Marian College. Confey will now face Templeogue College in the last four after the latter's penalty shootout win over St Oliver's Drogheda. After a 0-0 draw, keeper Karl Skinner was the hero with two penalty saves.
