Manchester United have agreed a €20m deal to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, according to reports breaking in Germany.

Bild have confirmed that the World Cup winner will bring down the curtain on his time with Bayern to sign a two-year contract with United.

While 30-year-old Schweinsteiger does not have age on his side, he represents a stunning capture by United as they prepare to make a return to the Champions League.

United boss Louis van Gaal has been seeking a midfield enforcer since he arrived at the club last summer and in Schweinsteiger, he has signed a proven world class performer in that vital position.

It has been evident for several days that United were edging closer to a deal for Schweinsteiger, with Bayern Munich Chiefs admitting their talisman was 'flattered' by links with United.

This news will also explain why United have not followed up their first bid for Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin with a second offer.

With defender Matteo Darmian joining Memphis Depay as a new face at United, Schweinsteiger is their latest high profile capture.

Next on Louis van Gaal's agenda must be a striker, after he agrees to allow Robin van Persie to sign for Feberbahce.
