Battle of Saints in Cup

LEAGUE champions St Patrick’s Athletic will have to overcome some fellow Saints in their bid to land the FAI Cup for the first time since 1961.

Yesterday’s draw for the second round of the FAI Ford Cup threw up some intriguing ties, with Dundalk and Sligo Rovers going into another face-off, a repeat of Saturday’s Setanta Sports Cup final while Shamrock Rovers have been handed a test away to non-league side Sheriff YC, while Bohemians travel south to take on Limerick in a repeat of the 1982 Cup final. But the league champions will stay in Dublin as they were paired with non-league side St Patrick’s CY.

There will be a non-league presence in the third round draw as Phoenix FC are drawn against LImerick outfit Ballynanty Rovers, Malahide United also heading to Munster to face Mayfield United while Shane Long’s former club St Michael’s of Tipperary are up against UCC.
