Alex face scenic route to realise Leinster goal

ANNUAL contenders Alexandra College face a long, tough road if they are to succeed in this year's FAIS Leinster Senior Girls Cup.

The Milltown school have yet to kick on from their Preliminary Round win at Athlone Community College due to fixture delays.

Not only are they now two rounds behind some of their main rivals for this year's title, the Dubliners face another two tough away trips if they are to make the semi-finals.

After Sophie Gleeson's late equaliser in Athlone forced a penalty-shootout that Alexandra eventually won, Dave Collins' side must now travel to Dunboyne in round one.

St Peter's College are their hosts in that clash, with the winners progressing to face St Louis College, Dundalk away in the quarter-finals.

Despite not tasting Senior Cup glory in over three years – a barren spell by their lofty standards – Alexandra have claimed league glory in the last two campaigns.

They will need to covert their league form into provincial cup pedigree sooner rather than later if they are to make their way to the latter stages.

One Dublin side already safely into the semi-finals is last year's runners-up, St Mac Dara's, Templeogue.

Following a 6-0 demolition of Mater Christi Secondary School, Cappagh in the first round, Mac Dara's saw off St Mary's Secondary School, Baldoyle 3-0 in the quarter-finals.

Mac Dara's were edged out by Sacred Heart Tullamore in last year's showpiece and the champions are due to face another recent winner, Eureka Secondary School Kells, in the last 16.
