St Gerard's took some measure of compensation for their senior counterparts when the juniors eclipsed Roscrea at Templeville Road yesterday.
These two schools have certainly seen a lot of each other this season. And it isn't quite over yet. Roscrea got the better of it in the Senior Cup semi-final and they are due to renew rivalry in the Senior League final, possibly next Wednesday.
"I think it came down to sheer determination. They really came together as a squad, rallying together. They have developed through the season," said Ken Jolly, from St Gerard's.
First, St Gerard's had to withstand a period of Roscrea pressure through their backs, before striking for tries through their wings Niall Byrne and Alex Mooney, both converted by fly-half Tommy Whittle for a 14-0 lead at the interval
The losers did manage to break back into the game when their number eight James Foley powered off the base of a scrum for a try which replacement out-half Tim Foley converted in the 65th minute. That was as close as they got.
