DEBUT-season Ireland Under-18 Schools boss Paddy O'Reilly and his side are in good shape following Monday's friendly draw with Australia.

Matthew Millar's 60th-minute penalty cancelled out George Poynton's first-half opener as the tourists denied the schoolboys in green a win.

Trinity Comprehensive School's O'Reilly watched his side earn a third positive result in six meetings since 2000.

Ireland's only victory (3-1) against the touring side came ahead of their last successful Centenary Shield campaign in 2010.

O'Reilly makes his Centenary Shield debut as boss against Northen Ireland at Ballinmallard Utd FC (5.0) on St Patrick's Day.

They looked to be heading for that game with a big win when Poynton followed up an early Conor Melody chance by latching onto a Conor Ellis flick to fire home on 23 minutes.

Melody forced a good save from the Austrlian goalkeeper before the break and after the restart Daire O'Connor was denied twice, before Paul Murphy's header was somehow kept out.

Dan Tobin's challenge on Millar resulted in the latter equalising from the spot, before Steve Whyte produced a scare by firing against the Irish upright late on.
