HAVING beaten Good Counsel in their previous encounter, a depleted Dublin South suffered a set-back in their Leinster Colleges Senior Hurling League campaign when they were comprehensively beaten by an impressive St Kieran's, Kilkenny side in Sancta Maria College last Friday.
In an even opening 20 minutes, Dublin South kept well in touch with a brace of scores from James Roche and Paul Doherty, as well as one from midfielder Ben McEntee.
Kieran's pushed on towards the end of the half, though, as goals from Ciaran Prendergast and David Burke set them up for a 2-17 to 0-7 victory.
Also on Friday, Malahide Community School secured the Dublin Schools Senior Hurling 'C' title at the expense of a spirited Confey College in O'Toole Park with a nine-point victory (3-11 to 2-5).
Meanwhile, having made a 100pc start to their Leinster College campaign, Coláiste Eoin suffered a reversal at the hands of St Brendan's, Birr in UCD yesterday as goals at crucial junctures gave Barry Whelehan's men a one-point win (3-6 to 0-14) over the Booterstown School, for whom midfielder (and Dublin minor star) Colm ó Croinín was once again in fine form.
Elsewhere, it was two defeats on the bounce for Dublin North, as their eight-point loss at the hands of Kilkenny CBS (3-13 to 1-11) at Russell Park came hot on the heels of their loss to Coláiste Eoin last Thursday.
